| Disney Paris and Disney Tokyo
In order to satisfy foreign enthusiasm for the Disney experience there are now venues abroad that serve millions annually. Disney Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort are similar in theme and design to their American counterparts with slightly unique local flavors.
Disney Paris
In 1992 the Disney Corporation opened Euro Disney just outside Paris. The area surrounding Paris was chosen because it offered Disney a location in the middle of western Europe, fairly convenient for travelers. Besides this central location, though, there was also available open and flat space, the kind necessary for a theme park the size and breadth of a Disneyland. Both Italy and Britain had vied for such a venue, too, but had failed to completely satisfy all of the project’s needs.
Disney Paris suffered in the first couple of years due in large part to anti-American sentiment in the region. Disney Paris was distinctly American, and many French resented the spectacle. In 1994, after some financial and business overhaul, the resort was renamed Disney Paris.
Disney Paris is really two theme parks within one: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, plus a large shopping venue. Add to this the attending resort hotels and the romance and liveliness of Paris, and Disney Paris becomes one of the most visited destinations in Europe.
Often there are Disney Vacation packages available for Disney Paris. Online information is abundant and travel agents would have current information on travel deals, as well.
Tokyo Disney Resort
Opened to the world in 1983, Tokyo Disneyland was the first of Disney’s theme parks to be located outside of the United States. Reclaimed land surrounding Tokyo post World War II eventually became the building site for what is now known as the Tokyo Disney Resort. What sets this theme park apart, too, is that though it bears the Disney name and retains much of the same flavor and design of the United States’ Disneyland and Disney World Resort, it is actually owned by a Japanese company, the Oriental Land Company.
Since 1983, two more phases have been added that led to the new name of Tokyo Disney Resort. Tokyo DisneySea Park was added as was a large shopping area called Ispiari.
For vacationers seeking a Disney theme park experience that is decidedly different from any other, Japan might be the perfect destination. There is ample online travel information and travel agents will have knowledge of particulars such as tickets, currency exchanges, expenses, accommodations and transportation.
